How do you know “Cubano”? 🇨🇺🇲🇽
Before we share his story, we want to hear yours.
Whether it was a deep drift at Palancar, a quiet moment in the jungle at @Casa.Caney, or seeing him fly past you on a bike training for his next Ironman—everyone has a “Cubano story.”
Tell us: How long have you been diving with him, and what makes your time underwater with Jorge so special? Drop your memories in the comments! 💬💙
The Lineage of the Legend: Diving with “Cubano”
They say some people are visitors to the ocean, while others are an endemic species. Jorge, known to everyone as “Cubano,” is undoubtedly the latter.
If you’ve spent any time in the Caribbean underworld, you know the name. You’ve likely seen that unmistakable, calm silhouette gliding over the reef—a presence so steady that the turtles and nurse sharks seem to nod in recognition as he passes. 🐢🦈
From Varadero to Cozumel: 35 Years Submerged
Jorge’s journey began in 1987 during militarized Red Cross Lifeguard training in Varadero, Cuba. Since then, his fins have touched the waters of the Mexican Pacific and even South Africa, but Cozumel is where his heart -and his legacy- truly beat.
With over thousands and thousands of logged dives, Cubano is more than a Co-Owner and Divemaster; he is a living archive of ocean knowledge.
-
The Experience: 35+ years diving the Cozumel National Marine Park.
-
The Credentials: PADI Divemaster, Full Cave Guide (NSS-CDS), and SECTUR Certified Scuba Nature Guide.
-
The Spirit: An Ultra-Triathlete and Ironman who treats the ocean with the same discipline and “old school” respect he gives to a 100km run.
The “Cubano” Style
To dive with Jorge is to experience simplicity and awareness. His guiding style is legendary—chill, relaxed, and deeply intentional. He doesn’t just show you the reef; he helps you see it through the eyes of someone who has watched these corals grow for decades.
Whether he’s sharing a “secret” old-school spot or heading back to his jungle sanctuary, Jorge remains a cornerstone of our community—a father, a grandfather, and a true Gente de Mar -People of the Sea-. He isn’t just a guide; he is Cozumel’s scuba living history. 🔱
