Proudly Mexican and from Quintana Roo State, as Cozumeleños we are dedicated to our people, advancing marine prosperity in Mexico protecting the planet we all share.
Ex Mare Venimus From the Sea, We Come.
Sub Culture began long before we first emerged into the surface. Our lineage is forged by the water that contains us, flowing through two distinct paths that reached their confluence in the deep.
Cubano’s journey began in his other island home, Cuba, where he worked within the rhythms of tourism and served as a Red Cross lifeguard. It was there he took his first breaths underwater, beginning a 35-year immersion in the tides of the Caribbean and Cozumel.
Cris navigated the global sectors of water, human rights, and advocacy before surfacing in Cozumel over 18 years ago. Since then, she has continued to drift through the currents of conservation, leading various community initiatives that protect Cozumel, our island home livelihood and identity.
Our Sub Culture emerges as a symbol of water -the origin of all life and our shared livelihood, after working in various local dive shops these currents converged in 2017 to launch Punta Sur Divers. In 2025, we dove deeper into our purpose, reaching a depth where our commitment to the planet and people became our primary breath. We evolved into Sub Culture—a community with an identity rooted in the belief that the Mesoamerican Reef is our sanctuary and our living teacher. We are a community shaped by the ocean’s pressure, guided by its currents, and belonging to and honouring life.
We invite you to dive into the current of change. As the first operation in Cozumel to offer eco-social adventures with impact, we treat the reef as a living relative, not scenery or a tourist destination, this is our home. Every breath you take in this sanctuary contributes to marine prosperity—an intentional act that flows, dives, and connects back to the local community. This is diving as conservation; a journey where you don’t just dive and observe the lineage, you become part of the kinship network- the Sub Culture that sustains it while partaking in responsible tourism and meaningful positive impact.

Think of your itinerary as a navigation chart. Use our Double Tank (DT) system—our multi-day diving packages—to program your AM or PM slots. These packages provide the foundation of your journey, allowing you to layer in our specialty dives to create a truly bespoke experience.
Before we submerge, reflect on the needs of your crew and let us know your technical requirements:
Note: All specialties require a 2-passenger minimum.
Sunrise Dive (1-TNK): Be the first to breathe with the reef as the sun breaks the surface.
Night Dive (1-TNK): Submerge into the quiet mystery and witness the “night shift” of the ocean.
Twilight to Night (2-TNK): Watch the world transform as you transition from dusk into the deep dark.
The Wild North (3-TNK AM): An expedition for Advanced Divers only. Navigate the untamed currents of the northern zones.
Marine Park Conservation To support the reef and reduce plastic waste, we recommend the Yearly Passport with CONANP. If you plan to dive with us often, this is more economical and eco-friendly than daily. Cost: $3,760 MXN* *With your contribution, you support the conservation of natural protected areas and gain unlimited access to all ANPs (Natural Protected Areas) for one full year.
Dive Insurance While not a requirement, we strongly recommend holding specialized insurance to anchor your peace of mind.

At Sub Culture, we are a small, family-owned operation that takes immense pride in doing things right. We hold all required permits, maintain full insurance coverage, and strictly comply with every legal standard for diving, navigation, and business ownership. We invest consistently in boat and gear maintenance and believe in paying fair wages to our dedicated crew. While we are a small “boutique” operation, our commitment to your safety and reliability is unwavering.
Deposits: To finalize your booking, we require a deposit per person, payable via our reservations portal.
The Balance: The remaining balance of your dive package must be paid in full upon arrival before your first descent.
Scaling Your Trip: You are welcome to add on dives as you go, provided space is available on the boat.
Please bear in mind that Sub Culture is a boutique operation with limited capacity. Every slot is vital.
The Impact: When you make last-minute changes, it creates an opportunity cost—preventing other divers from joining and impacting our logistics.
Our Request: We ask that you treat your scheduled slots as confirmed commitments.
Our absolute priority is the safety of our crew and all divers on board.
Medical Refunds: If you are unable to dive due to illness and require a refund, we require a formal doctor’s note from CMC (Dr. Dario).
Sobriety Policy: Please note that a hangover does not qualify as being sick. We reserve the right to refuse service and prevent you from diving if our crew senses you have been partying or are under the influence from the night before. In these cases, no refund will be issued.
